The House on the corner of Kavanaugh and Palm in the Hillcrest neighborhood will open on June 26th. It is a great little neighborhood hangout with great food and a fun local atmosphere. The past three weeks we have been talking about Shangri La Resort on Lake Ouachita, just off of Highway 270. The address actually reads Mt.Ida, Arkansas. It is about 20 miles east of there and always worth the drive. Mrs. Vareen Carr who owns and operates the place with her family is a pie goddess! The pies are out of this world and the cafe serves great down home cooking. My pie hint of the year, if you get there before noon, run into the restaurant and order your pie first, before you sit down. They will take your piece of pie, my favorite is peanut butter, and put a fork on the plate with your name under the plate. It is the only way to get the one you want before noon. When we stay there we do this at breakfast. I hope you get to visit
